How to Play

Snakes and Ladders for iPhone and iPad

🎲 The rules

These same seven rules are in the game itself, under How to Play on the main menu.

πŸŽ›οΈ House rules

Three of the rules above are optional. Switch them on or off when you set up a Solo or Pass to Play game, and the whole table plays by what you chose.

In an online game the host picks the house rules. In the Daily Challenge nobody picks them β€” see below.

πŸ“… The Daily Challenge

One board a day, shared by every player on Earth. The squares, the snakes, the ladders and the house rules are all worked out from the date, so everybody gets exactly the same puzzle β€” and everybody gets one attempt at it.

Finish it and your score goes on the Daily Challenge leaderboard, where the fewest rolls wins. Because there is only one try a day, nobody can climb that board by playing more than anyone else.

Need to put the game down halfway? It is saved exactly where you left it, and picking it up again costs you nothing.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Board sizes

Three sizes: Small (30 squares) for a quick game, Medium (60), and the traditional Classic (100).

Every board is checked before you ever see it. Snakes and ladders hop between neighbouring rows, no chute runs flat across a row, both kinds turn up in every part of the board, and the very last chute is always a snake β€” so the run to the finish is never a free ride.
